This is an old illustration but still a favorite to show off our digital painting techniques. Tanishq commissioned a set of 3 illustrations to previsualise their AARKA photo shoot. This is how we did it...

Tanishq was marketing a brand new collection called Aarka, and wanted Ixmod to design a series of collateral with an image of a sun goddess to illustrate the brand. Ixmod in turn commissioned us to create the  image. I first sent across some doodles to get an approval of the feel. Based on the sketch I started the final image.

The first step was to model and pose a 3d human model. After the posing and lighting I bring the image into Gimp for painting. I roughly sketch in the details such as drapery, hair etc. and then start to fill in the colour...

Normally it works well if the clothes too are created in 3d, but I didn't have enough time so I decided to just paint it on. Once the clothes are done, I start to work on the background.

After it's all done it's a matter of colour correcting the overall image and working on the rest of the details such as lightning and smoke.

Tada! All done.
